November at Arts Visalia will showcase a variety of hand-crafted altar spaces for Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). The altars will be on exhibit between October 31 – November 15, 2024. An opening reception will take place on Friday, November 1 from 5:00 pm – 7:30 pm featuring an Aztec blessing by Tepeyollotl Cuahuitlan at 6:00 pm and a performance by Ballet Folklorico de Lago at 6:30 pm. A cultural presentation featuring family stories about the altar displays and a performance by Mariachi Nuevo Rubi will take place on Saturday, November 2 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. La Catrina de Visalia will present the history of Día de los Muertos, a performance by Ballet Folklorico Sierra Linda, and a make-your-own sugar skull activity for children (while supplies last) will take place on Saturday, November 9 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. The Annual Holiday Show & Sale featuring Ernie Weerasinghe: a Retrospective will open Friday, November 22 and run through Saturday, December 21, 2024. An evening reception will be held on Friday, December 6 from 5:00 pm – 7:30 pm. A presentation on The Art of Ernie by co-curator Aaron Collins will take place on Saturday, December 7 at 2:00 pm.
