For over 60 seasons, it has been the mission of the Sequoia Symphony Orchestra to provide a symphony orchestra to Tulare County to promote and foster appreciation of symphonic music, to further adult participation in creative music activity, and to promote the education and development of young musicians.The Sequoia Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1959 in the backyard of Tulare resident Pat Hillman. The current orchestra is composed of 80 or so local musicians, and some from throughout California. Dr. Bruce Kiesling has been the Musical Director since 2009. His pre-concert comments and insider stories have become popular additions. Bruce is also the Musical Director of The Adrian Symphony in Michigan and Artistic Director and Conductor of the School of Orchestral Studies at the NY Summer School of the Arts. Currently, Bruce conducts at the University Orchestra and Opera at the University of California Santa Cruz.
