Q: What is Kings Canyon National Park famous for?

A: Kings Canyon is home to the deepest canyon in the United States with a depth of more than a mile and a half AND one of the largest groves of Sequoia trees in the world. John Muir once called Kings Canyon "a rival to Yosemite." It is a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts with miles of trails for hiking and horseback riding. 

Q: Which is better, Kings Canyon or Sequoia National Park?

A: You can’t possibly ask us to choose! Each park certainly has a wide array of unique attractions to marvel at and the best part is, you can see both parks for one entrance fee! 

Q: How far is Sequoia National Park from Kings Canyon?

A: Technically, they are operated as the same park.  It takes about 45 minutes to go from Sequoia entrance to the Giant Forest Museum. 20 minutes from there to Lodgepole. It takes about 45 minutes to go from Lodgepole to Kings Canyon Entrance. 

Q: Can you drive through Kings Canyon National Park?

A: Visitors can make the drive from one park to the other and many make the loop in from one entrance and out the other. Although they are considered 2 separate parks they operate as one with only one entrance fee. There is also national forest land that visitors pass through as they follow the General’s Highway from park to park. The road between the parks may be closed in winter due to heavy snows.

Q: How long is Kings Canyon Scenic Byway?

A: 50 breathtaking miles of gorgeous views. You will begin near Dunlap and travel all the ways to Roads End, following HWY 180. Travel time is about 2-3 hours. The section of the byway below the turn-off to Hume Lake closes for the winter, so plan your tour of Kings Canyon mid-May to mid-October. 

Q: How do you get to Kings Canyon Scenic Byway?

A: You can access the Kings Canyon Scenic Byway from Visalia by heading north on highway 63, then heading east on Highway 180 into Kings Canyon National Park/ Sequoia National Forest.
